I think you're right - it depends on the local people you're dealing with.
I've been with Lloyds TSB as a sole trader and recently also Abbey National as a Ltd company.
Both are excellent.
Lloyds are very good with $ checks.
I use barclays and so far so good,
The local business manager was a big help, and explained a few ways of saving money. I've banked personally with them since i was 8.
seems everyone has different experiences with local branches.

I have used Barclays for years for my personal banking, there is nothing wrong with the service, the biggest problem is they pay no interest on current accounts and their saving rates are rubbish as well. I imagine the same problem with there business banking and a load of fees as well but heres hoping.
I have been doing all my business banking with Cahoot up till now, they are great and pay 4% interest on the current account but they cant do an account in the limited company name which is why I have to move.
Having experienced A&L business banking I have decided to go with Barclays I think. At least they have a local branch I can go and speak to if there is a problem.
