Seems a bit strange. How can they charge you vat in the first place if you cannot claim it back? Though I'm no expert.

Hi I've just signed up with an accountant and gone limited. In initial discussions with my accountant she has said that she doesnt seem to think I can reclaim vat on google as it is southern ireland as opposed to northern ireland (or the other way around).
I'm hoping to god she's wrong as I spend over £4K per month on google so would be able to claim back circa £800 per month which would damn well pay the mortgage.
Any one got any advice or links as to where I can find out more on this subject that I can send her to read ?
Cheers
Mike

Hi
If you register for VAT, as soon as you have the number, enter it into your google account and then Google will not charge you vat anymore so you won't need to claim.
You can also claim back VAT that was charged by google back to the date of your vat registration. So if your VAT registration date was 1 November, and then you enter this into your adwords account on 15 November, vat charged 1-15 November is reclaimable via google.
What I don't think you can claim is what you paid to irish vat prior to your date of uk vat registration. I believe you would need to contact the actual irish authorities to clarify that.
My accoutnant tried looking into this for me and got the answer that it was not possible to get it fpr before I became VAT registered.Originally Posted by charlton

Charlton,
Is that right about them backdating the Vat? Do you know if they do it automaticaly or not or will I have to contact them?
I've been Vat registered for ages but never thought about the google adwords charges (doh)- could be a nice Christmas bonus if your right!lol

They won't do it automatically. If you email them they will tell you the procedure. They should be able to refund all the VAT you paid since after you became VAT registered. First thing is to put your VAT number into your adwords account!
Correct. Once you have your vat number Google will no longer charge you vat when you enter it in your account. If you register for VAT, as soon as you have the number, enter it into your google account and then Google will not charge you vat anymore so you won't need to claim.
This is also correct. I had the same conversation when I went limited a couple of years ago.My accoutnant tried looking into this for me and got the answer that it was not possible to get it fpr before I became VAT registered.
In theory you should be able to backdate and reclaim the VAT - but I have been waiting nearly 4 months now and they still havn't paid up.
Drop google an email and they will tell you how to do it.
