As far as I understand if you are a registered company you have to display your company name etc visibly at your business address.

Now I assume most of us run our businesses from home so just wondering how people fulfil this obligation.

I don't fancy a big plaque on my front door?

Any company-from-home owners on here to let me know how big (!) it has to be etc and where you stick it (!)?

It doesn't have to be external - you can print off a bit of paper and stick it on your home office wall and you're fine.

That said, the chances of you ever getting caught not complying are pretty much zero anyway - I know of very few people that do it.

my accountant has a plaque on his wall for me (his address is my registered address, so any legal/financial/IMPORTANT paperwork will get to him first)

yup it just has to be on display at your registered address, doesn't have to be huge/external etc..

The company formation operation we used shafted us with a brass plaque for like £70 or something daft, for all of about £5 worth of "brass" lookalikey stuff, when a piece of paper would have done fine.

yes, in fact I think mine is a framed certificate rather than a plaque as well; I didn't want to pay for the extras (nor a Company seal!)

Thanks for your replies - I did think you had to display your company name etc externally so just on my wall will be fine. I might even get a copper imprint of my cheesy face on it now as well.

I didn't imagine that Companies House would drive to my house just to check but you never know.

One other thing to add to this. If you are a limited company then you also have to have your company details on your website. I think the law changed earlier this year. There's a thread on this forum somewhere.
