No, only individuals in the EU are subject to VAT.
As a VAT registered Ltd company, if I go and do some work abroad, say in New Zealand, what rate of VAT applies to services?
No, only individuals in the EU are subject to VAT.
The following guide from HMRC may help: HM Revenue & Customs
It can depend on the type of work and where the work is performed, a call to the VAT office or an accountant may provide you with a quicker answer.
If you're going abroad to work, wouldn't you need to look at what VAT/tax rules that country has, rather than the UK's? Or is it just for a short, 1-off job - in which case I don't know what the implications are.
Like people have mentioned above, you won't need to charge VAT as the business is non EU based. As a results you will not need to pay the tax man VAT and that service you charged for. Works in the same way you would deal with Amazon, Ebay Google Affiliate, Adsense etc payments in your accounts.
Do you have a accountant or do you do your own VAT & Tax returns?
