    Hi everybody,

I am new to affiliate marketing and will - this time around - try to make a serious go at it. I've been building non-aff sites for companies for 7+years and have a - what I believe is - good idea. Although not unique, still some room in the market for this type of site.

I guess my question is: how do you select your aff programs. Do you go and buy a domain, spend some time brainstorming on design and content issue and then try to find the best advertisers or do you find the advertisers first and worry about the site afterwards?

Also if you know that a specific company is working with affiliate how do you find the merchant (cj, affwindow, td) they signed up with. I try googling for 'company name affiliate' but it didn't return any results.

Be gentle ... first post here

ps. BTW I will be trying my hands at credit cards and bank accounts that's why I posted it here. Yes I know not the easiest market

I usually have an idea of a product or site and buy the domain if keyword research indicates the site is worthwhile, also looking for particular merchants to then promote through that site. Others may do it the other way round and start a site based on looking at the advertisers first, it works both ways i suppose.

As for finding the network the advertiser is signed up with you have a few options:

    Google it as suggested
Try: Welcome to AffiliateBounty (although i'm not sure how up to date it is now).
Or visit the advertisers website and search around for any links relating to promoting them, affiliate program etc.
If all else fails you could ask on forums such as here or email them direct.

Good luck with the credit card market, not something i have tried myself yet.
