Does anyone know more about this scam we've stumbled across...
Basically fraudsters set up loads of revenue share deals with personal "follow me" numbers (all numbers beginning with 070) which appear to most to be mobile phone numbers - the problem is they are not, they are a means of diverting anonymously to any number in the world and can cost a few quid in call charges.
Obviously what the fraudsters are doing is applying for anything and everything on the internet especially high value financial products like IVAs, DMs, loans, mortgages etc knowing full well they will be called on those numbers, they then proceed to keep the calling company on the line as long as possible or even make out they have a problem with their phone and to call back later (they probably get more for the initial connect than the ongoing call!).
Our IVA department just got stung by loads of these before we sussed the problem.
Good scam if they can get away with it but we're now having to implement 070 validations to our forms to block these coming through :td
Anyone else spotted this or know more about how it works?
