How long is an amazon cookie?
You've got 5 sites? or some 5 page sites?
I've got about five landing page type sites and in total they are sending about 15-30 visitors to merchants each day - mainly Amazon.co.uk - but I am only making one sale a day at the most and some days no sales.
Do I just need more traffic or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.
I think the amazon cookie is 1 day, so you lose out on people returning to the site.
On average you will get 1 or 2 sales for every 100 people that click through, so its just a case of getting more traffic in my opinion.

Amazon cookies are short. And everyone promotes amazon. So if you're sending traffic there it's got to be really ready to buy, convinced they can't get it cheaper elsewhere and really focuses on buying right now.
These are my month to date figures according to Amazon Associates Central:
Clicks:
312
Unique Visitors:
238
Items Ordered (Amazon):
4
Items Ordered (3rd Party):
7
Total Items Ordered:
11
Conversion:
3.53%
Comes to about £10. Most of my sites are in the bottom half of page one and I can't really see how to get any higher with my on page SEO skills. As not all of the sites have been indexed/live the whole month I estimate I would get about £20 per month unless one of them happens to convert really well. So to get £500 a month I would need 25 sites that perform like these ones.
Five landing-page sites. Not all of the five have been running all month.
Sounds like you would best served by adding more content and products and other merchants then.Five landing-page sites
More content + more products = more keywords; more keywords = more variety of search terms; more varierty of search terms = more traffic; and more traffic = more sales:tup
If Amazon isn't the only place, or the cheapest place to buy your products why not try promoting a merchant with a longer cookie length - or maybe offer price comparison so you make decision for your visitors and they don't have to go off - they can just click and buy.
To get the sites to rise up the pages embark on your link building campaign and use of social media etc.

For the price comparison maybe look at easycontentunits.com : Home
You might want to start looking for people to swap links with either by looking through the existing link exchanges or posting a new one in this thread.
This way, along with yout extra content you'll be higher up the SERPS for your main keywords meaning more traffic and more sales.

I recently added price comparison to one of my sites (even though Amazon is the cheapest) and my Amazon conversion has gone up from around 7% to 11%. I haven't actually made any sales through the other merchants but they do get clicks and have longer cookie lengths.
Thanks.
Thanks for the tips people.
I think I will start adding some ECU for price comparison.
On most of my sites I have links to 'recommended suppliers' that go to a general page for the product but in the text of the page I have direct links to each product I am 'featuring' going straight to amazon as I like the sales from other products amazon seems to get.
If you need any help with ECU, send me a support ticket, I'd be happy to help you with creating price comparison units if you need it!
As mentioned above, by presenting the prices from other merchants, it'll help prevent your visitors having to 'shop around' for the best price, leading to better conversions.

Stock checkers are a good way to add the impulse to buy now. If you can display which merchants have the item in stock, then that saves your potential lead from wandering up off your site and going elsewhere.
Have a look at http://www.stock-checker.co.uk/
I have a few stock checker sites and they do convert rather well.
