I've done about 10 niche landing page type-sites so far.

A couple have made sales, the rest have not, but it is early days so I am not so worried about that.

But I was wondering what is the best format for these kind of pages?

So far I have been doing them like this:

    On the Home/Landing page:

Heading: bit of text about the site

Product #1: short review of a product from the niche with a picture and then a link button saying 'click here for more info' which takes the user to the merchant.

Product #2: the same as above but for another product.

My plan is to keep adding products to the main page over time.

I am then also adding additional pages related to the niche which have the same format of heading, then a list of products with a review, image of product and a link to the merchant for each product.

Is this the best way? I have seen some sites which have lots of text content about the niche and then just one or a couple of links to a merchant operating in that niche and not focusing on specific products or linking directly to products at the merchants site.

Which is better and is there a third way?

    Thanks.

Seems nobody has replied to you, will try to give you then my 2 cents on this.

If you're doing this SEO way then for couple years and still to day the mini-review sites been proven to work well.

Usually they consist of 10 or more pages of articles (seo content), and then there is a comparison page and posibly couple product reviews (these all can be on one page or can have separate page) like i showed you example with these sleeping bags.

Interesting thing is that people love to compare - good proof for this is the popularity of comparison engines. So on your mini site you can do a review/comparison and highlight some things that might not be seen by a regular visitor (quality, flaws in guarantee, secret bonuses, etc).

This way you can build authority and often send the visitor to purchase medium or even most expensive item as opposite the usual presumption - that cheaper is better.

Landing sites should be all about the product and each page on the site should be 100% focused on a product you are trying to sell. Cut out any noise like who you are as all those words are doing is killing off the relevance for the product.

So there should only be one product on each page rather than lots on one page?

If you are selling oranges, apples and pears all on the same page then the page will not be as relevant for apples as some other web page that only sells apples.

If you are selling Gala, Pink Ladies and Delicious all on the same page then some other web page which only promotes Gala apples will be more relevant than your page.

To be successful you only have to be 1% better than the competition. It is hard enough to get ranked well without losing the battle before you start.

The advantage of landing pages is that you are only selling one product and when the customer visits they are not distracted by lots of boxes promoting everything else that you sell. They searched for it so reward them by giving them whatever they were looking for. Use minimal menus and have a full and complete site map for any visitors that want to explore to find the rest of your products.

    Erm, ok.

So if you were doing double sleeping bags, would you say it was acceptable to have lots of different products on the landing page?

having products on your squeeze pages is not enough, what ever you have should be hypnotic but at the same time persuasive and irresistible.

As i am not looking at the site in question, it would be out of place to offer you a more convincing critique of your squeeze pages. if you like send me a PM and i would offer you some straight talk that would help you.

A quick addition, your buyers have already decided to buy if they're reading your review. We know that because they reached your site by searching for your product on google, clicking on your Adwords Ad, reaching your blog or however. Don't distract them now by giving them a choice of products to buy. One product per page works for me even though I keep a duplicate fact sheet site up under a different domain name reviewing one product against a similar one just in case. I've never had much success putting more than 2 products on one page. Hope it helps. Thanks for the opportunity to add my 2 cents in.

I don't know if it helps or not, but I don't really think of them as landing pages (probably going to get shouted that's wrong ).

I have a home page where I have a little intro, some blurb about the "niche" and then at least a featured product or if reviews I show the latest, say 5 reviews - but not all the review, just, say, 200 words and a picture with a link for "more". I also have search, what's new. I then have a listing of products, by category if necessary, which of course then go to the product on a single page.

What happens when they click more? Taken to the merchant or a new page with just that review on?

It is not really a specific site I am referring to.

I am trying a few ideas out and was wondering which is the best.

Yes, I too have tried various things. I am probably at a similar stage as you tbh, earning pocket money, not enough to live on. I have a lot of sites - my problem is concentrating and getting enough done before I get fed up and move to another one :blush

When they click more they are kept in my site with a review and similar products.

I managed to grab a "smingle site" thinking perhaps this will give me a kick up the backside! This is on page 1 of google for one keyword and am now trying to get there for other keywords. You can see it at Horror Books

Another of my sites is T-Shirt Man - bringing you the best t shirts in the world That runs on two different scripts, my favourite for the front end and reviews plus price tapestry to have a T-Shirt shop. This site I am just building up and have not got much in all the categories. Got to pull my finger out! Sadly I've just lost a weeks work from being bedridden

Comments, good or bad <G>, on these sites are more than welcome. If you think I am doing it totally wrong tell me!! Quickly too as I am basing my other sites on this format!

I have another site that is not run on any script, pure html nothing else, and therefore different format, but it is only for one product.
Nikon D90 Digital Camera - Nikon D90 Compare UK prices

I'd be tempted to put the price comparison from this page Nikon D90 - compare prices on the homepage leading on from where the content on the homepage ends rather than making the user click through. What is your click through rate to that page?

Even on my sites that make sales people seem to rarely click to other pages.

Does anyone make sites like these or know whether they work or not?

pressurewasher.org.uk - Cheap Pressure Washers Here

    http://pressurewasher.co.uk/

Have they just been put up as 'holding' pages until the real site gets built or are they the real site and make money?

    Thanks.
