    Hi Guys,
    Any advice would be appreciated.
I would like to know .....
What level of income can I expect to recieve in AM with around 140,000 visitors to my site each year. My site will focus on fashion and redirect visitors to fashion retailers sites. I am looking to register with a variety of networks.
I know its difficult to predict as there are a variety of variables to take into account but a rough estimate would be great???:tup

    Thanks

Unfortunately Julie, you're absolutely correct, there are far too many variables for anyone to predict your earnings.

I am not too sure about your sector but if you take a few averages and add them together you might make up a really rough estimate.

How many are going to click to go to a merchant

How many will actually buy something

Average basket size for that merchant - how much commission is on offer

    Sorry for the vague response

    Hi Jason,

Thankyou for taking the time to reply to my post.

You mentioned finding out avergae basket value for the retailers who I will be working with.
Any tips on how I would go about finding this info out?
Also how do predict how many of our visitors will actually make a purchase once they have landed on the merchants site? Is there a magical formula that exists in this wonderful world of AM? lol

    Thanks again

When you sign up to merchants they do have some stats available.

Conversion rates for fashion are usually 1-3%. So for every 100 customers clicking on your links you should on average get a couple of sales. Of course being fashion people return stuff so you you will lose a few of those too.

    140,000 u/v a year
lets say avg basket is £40
    avg commision is 10%

so your commision would be £4 on an avg sale

Then lets say out of the 140,000, that 2% make a purchase = 2800 people buy something

    = 2800 x £4 = £11,200

Obv you can change the figures accordingly, but this forumla always works for me when working out things like this

Average baskets is often shown on the merchant page at the networks, some networks publish conversion rates, some networks even publish the earnings per click.

There's another metric (returns) whichis shown by some networks though they tend to call it reversals, something else to consider.

Take a look at each merchant closely before signing up to their program, and glean whatever information is available - you could even send them an email asking for the information, some might say no, but it's only an email.

    Hi again,

Do I need permission to include links to merchants on my site?
If a merchant is not registered on a network for eg: asos would I need permission to diplay a asos link on my site? Also if for example I referred a large number of customers to asos could I then contact them to negotiate a deal on paying me for sending so many customers their way?

I think you need to register through a network to be able to show the banners with the tracking in place otherwise there isn't a way to know which visitors you sent that then turned into sales. That's my understanding anyhow, Dunno if ASOS still have a affiliate program I know they ticked of a lot of affiliates a while back- they used to be on Paid On Results

At Webgains we have a very strong fashion sector with quite a few programs. If you're interested in boutique brands and diffusion lines then you might want to have a look at :

    - Projectsclothing.com (please click here to sign up to the program)
    - Milan Clothing (please click here to sign up to the program)
    - Bunnyhug.co.uk (please click here to sign up to the program)
    - Start London (please click here to sign up to the program)
    - my-wardrobe.com (please click here to sign up to the program)

We do however have many more programs across the fashion sector though - womenswear, menswear, lingerie, sport & surfwear, footwear...you name it!

    Hi,
Does anyone know if I need to gain permission from retailers to include links to their sites in the form of a directory?

Do you mean non affiliate links?

If you do then I doubt the majority would object, however, you would not be making any commission on these links.

    Hi Warren,
Yes non affiliate links. As I dont think every retailer is part of a network?
Is it possible to use a program like google analyitics to track people leaving our site and landing on a retailers site and then taking these statistics to a retailer to negotiate a commission?
    thanks xxxxxxxx
