Should I go for keyword.uk.com or key-word.co.uk for a uk targetted product?

The key-word.co.uk is a 6 year old domain with history but will cost more as it is sold by a broker.

Big question is : what does google think?

In my experience uk.com domains are never good rankers. This is because they are sub domains of www.uk.com and are not actually domain names. (what I've been told anyway)

I would go with the key-word.co.uk domain easily. However if it's been active and it's aged, i would research the hell out of it to make sure it has always been legit and has never been sand-boxed.

Thanks for the advice, I didnt know if uk.com was back in favor, seemingly not.

You make a good point that an aged domain may not always contain positive history.

Google does not give much weightage on an old domain but to an old website. So if the old domain was left unused for years or it was hosted with some pages with non impressive contents I would suggest to get a new local (co.uk) meaningfuk and easy to remember domain. Google will easily give importance if you can associate the new domain with a popular website. You can do it by placing a menu link of your new website from a popular website and drag visitors from there. If GA is set in both website, google can trace it easily and it will treat the new website as an associate website of the parent one, rate it accordingly. However you must have unique contents in your website and other ways to prove its crediblity.

    Thanks

It depends what the .co.uk domain is? If the domain holds your target keyword then buy it, so as an example:

    cheaplaptops.co.uk

Why? Because its an exact match domain and when others link to you they will automatically create anchor text links back, which is your main goal when wanting to rank for a search term.
