is joomla for blogs and cost to upgrade to a website like in wordpress?

i downloaded joomla, but i understand you need a website first , please help me with the real life steps to take , if im wrong correct me

1 find nich with some personal interest

2 get hosting + domain name(package) - recommendation will be appreciated (the hosting should be on a server in the country you want to target right ?)

3 install joomla (no idea how) well' do i need joomla from the start to build the site ?
i tried using Dreamweaver but its too much for me.

Both Wordpress and Joomla are FREE content managment systems which you install on your server! Many hosting providers provide one click installers to make it easier for their customers.

Wordpress origionaly started off as a blogging platform but these days there are companies using it too sell their products. If youre not a designer there's hundreds of free templates available, Google it and have a look.

Joomla is something I dont know much about, but I bet if you know what your doing you can knock up some good looking sites with it. Both Wordpress and Joomla have communities that can help answer any questions you may have. Welcome to Joomla.co.uk | Community WordPress › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform

What do you mean by Wordpress wants 50% of future profits?

you see if they both take 50% i might as well go with word press, i know there are templates' but i tried for a long time to create a site with templates on Dreamweaver, and it is waaay out of my league
with word press its easy but HALF of profits (and paying very high taxes in israel) seems kinda steep..if there is another way i would take it

Why would Joomla and Wordpress take 50% of your profits?

I'm like Dazza, Wordpress, Joomla and another good one to the mix drupal are free.

    This is how it works:

    1. Find niche, buy domain name for niche.

    2. Buy hosting which has a mysql database with it.

    3. Download wordpress (FREE) and unzip on desktop (you now have a folder with a load of files in it)

    4. Back into hosting and note down mysql details: IP address, username, password

    5. Inside the unzipped folder will be a file which needs your mysql details.

    6. Upload whole unzipped file to hosting through FTP

    7. Go to something like yourdomain.co.uk/wp-install.php or something like that cant remember

    8. Click Go

    9. the details you entered for the database will now allow wordpress to connect to your mysql database and build all the tables needed to make it run.

    10. Like magic its done for FREE

The only cost I can think of is if your buying a theme you want to use.

Why do you think they take 50%? How would they even know if you were earning anything? It is all open source, free software which you download and install on your hosting.

Noone is going to take 50% of your profits! I would say to use Wordpress if you are starting out as it is easier to use for a beginner and there are loads of good free templates available.

I think you may be getting confused between Wordpress.com ( blogs run and hosted by wordpress) and self hosted Wordpress.org (or is it .net?) script that is Open Source and is installed on your server. You have 100% control of everything.
Completely jaded by all those American Guru type marketers so thought I'd come and hide here, it seems nice here....

Wordpress is good for small websites so sites between 1-30 pages (not posts), remember although people use it as a CMS it was never built to be a CMS.

Joomla on the other hand was and I would say anything more then 30 pages use joomla.

Wasn't aware that something like this was possible with wordpress.com, but then I've been away from that platform for quite some time now.
