Evening all.
Which is the best way to start?
I can look for a good niche and low competition keywords in that niche easily enough but how do I know if I'm going to find an affiliate program that's a good match for the site?
If I find the program first, well I'm not sure how I'd do that without joining all sorts of networks and with out a site they may not want me, then I could be looking at going splat up against overwhelmingly powerful competition.
So Ladies n Gent's is it the Chicken or the egg?

Go for what you are interested in.
Forget the highest paying, or highest search.
If you are not interested in your choosen program you will never see it through.
Remember content is king.
You cannot get motivated writing about something you have no interest in.
Think about what you love, write a list.
Keyword research that list.
Theres no point in finding an affiliate program for someting that gets little or no searches.
Have a good list of keyphrases researched and then look for programs.
Sign up to a network that has 100s of affiliate programs and then compare the viable keywords for programs all in one go.
Thats what I do to get some inspiration.
Hope that helps.
Rubbish. Find something that you think you can make money from. Make sure that you believe that it will sell online. Establish that you're going to get paid on time and in full if you send sales/leads to the merchant. Knock up a simple but professional looking site. Use PPC to find the best converting keywords, then add SEO, optionally dropping the PPC if you get the rankings.
If it works, repeat with another offer. If not, try another offer. Keep doing this until you win.
I've made fortunes over the years from plenty of stuff that doesn't interest me in the slightest.
Not sure which is chicken and which is egg, so just to clarify my point, start with the offer, not the site.

lol now thats the kind of post that would demorolise many people even before they started
If you want to promote something, get a small site up and networks will say yes as you have invested in the domain and hosting
Thinking theres a chicken in a egg, you might as well leave the IM and be a farmer
