Try using this instead of the plugin:
Like Button - Facebook developers
I've put Facebook like buttons on some of my Wordpress sites.
I've then created pages in Facebook and tried to link those Like buttons to my Facebook page so that when someone clicks the like button they are counted as a 'fan' of the page.
I've managed to get it working with one of my pages but the rest don't seem to work at all.
I'm using the Bottomless Like button but have tried others.
Anyone got any advice? It's really doing my head in!
If you go to my blog in my sig you can see the buttons, if you click them you won't become a fan of my page (I don't think) even though I've tried to make that happen.
Help!

You can add it into the single.php file to make it show on each post page wherever you want it to etc.
I experienced this problem when I first used the facebook like buttons.
I also used the instructions at Like Button - Facebook developers, I followed the instructions detailed in 'Step 1 - Get the Like Button Code', but I completely overlooked 'Step 2 - Get Open Graph Tags', this causes the like buttons to appear but people clicking them don't become fans.

Have you tried the wordbooker plugin?
It can also upload new posts direct to your facebook page when you publish, which is ideal.
It also handles like buttons fine + uploads/downloads comments.
Took me a while to set-up at first but it works great.
Great support available if you have any problems. (see their facebook page)
Good luck with getting it sorted.

Maybe the one that worked had a custom url (which you can only get when a number of users likes a page).
It did. Maybe that is what is needed. Annoying, must sit back and wait for it to get the hits.
It will be that then.
You only need 11 followers or around that number to unlock the custom url. once you unlock it your have to go in and actually put in the unique name for the page url. your have something like .com/mypage
Just thought I'd update this as I didn't know how to insert the Open Graph tags into my Wordpress install, but discovered that Yoast's Wordpress SEO Plugin enables you to put them in in the Indexation section. It now works for me. Hope this helps someone else!
