Hi thanks for looking at this thread, I am new to the whole world of affiliates (better late than never!!!). I am setting up a new business in a couple of months time - after gardening leaving has ended and am looking at ways to create an affiliate scheme. I'm sure the question has been asked many times but from all you experienced guys and girls out there I would appreciate any words of wisdom that you could share with a newbie. All I have at the moment is a blank sheet of paper!!!

    Thanks for your help

    Dom

I guess the advice I would give is sometimes you can get to excited with the idea of earning loads of money that you end up buying lots of domain names and putting together lots of websites with the hope one will hit the jackpot.

I have made this mistake and now reflecting back I wish I had spent more time researching for 1 or 2 big websites.

Its like playing the lottery buying lots of domains and throwing up loads of mini websites with your fingers crossed is never going to work as well as not playing the lottery but setting up a business with a strategy in place.

A week of research to find a site to build which earns £500 a month is better then an hour of research to find a website to build which earns £100 a month.

and i see this as a rule of thumb - designing a website in 2 hours wont work as well as a site designed in 2 days.

I guess what im saying is the more effort you put into every element the more you should expect to gain.

    Hope this helps.

Try focusing your efforts on a niche in affiliate marketing and as the person above mentioned, don't try to go all out and buy domains and websites, it will only leave your wallet a bit lighter. Once you find a niche that you can pursue, you could then start filling that blank paper with ideas.

I'm guilty of acquiring domain names that I probably will never use...what seems like a good idea in the early hours of the morning always lose their shimmer in the cold light of day!

What I am doing though is concentrating on a good couple of sites, really building them up well, and then when I have time will go back and visit things like, orangedustbinlids.com.
