    Hi all, I've been playing around with the Google Keyword tool, which seems to do a pretty good job, but would appreciate any feedback on the other options out there.

    I've noticed a few nice looking premium keyword tools, most part of larger SEO tool packages. Is it worth paying for the premium packages if it's just keyword research I'm concentrating on, or does the Google option offer the same sort of functionality?

    Hi Chris,

    Personally, I prefer Market Samurai. Although it uses GKT it gives way more data. I think we all need to take the figures with a pinch of salt, though, as it's averaged from the previous month and year. Notice how many values are the same; 33,100, 5,600, 8,400 etc. I'd like Big G to give us some raw data for once, instead of a guesstimate, but it's all we have to go on.

    Call me crazy but I've just bought an EMD which has 170 hits per month. Why? Because I know the market, I know it's going to rocket in the next 6-12 months and I'll *hopefully* be sat on a gold mine.

    Ah, the old gold mine...we'll all get there eventually!

    Yes, you're right regarding the similarity of the numbers on Google, there are an awful lot of terms which fall into the same brackets. I almost get the feeling they are sitting on a premium model themselves to deliver specifics down to single number accuracy at some point, as the current AdWords tool just seems too broad a brush for somebody like Google to have at their disposal. I guess for most purposes though, these general ballpark figures and associated keywords are enough, so it does the job.

    And call me stupid (I'm guessing the 'D' stands for 'domain'), but what's an EMD?

    EMD = exact match domain

    Longtail Pro might be worth a try, I've not used it myself but it sounds interesting.
