Question, Domain names and keywords.

Hello all,

Thought I might try my hand at AM. I found a domain name available with the .co.uk tag, however the domain name is I'm looking to purchase will relate to graphic tablets, such as the motorola zoom, transformer etc...

I keep reading about starting up in niche areas, must this always be the case?, is it not feasible to start up a website using well known brand names, keeping it up to date with new content and make any progress?. I wouldn't be throwing any money at it, just the purchase of the domain name and hosting. I know I'm probably being naive as hell, but this an area of interest to me, and as such would rather try something like this, than some obscure widget or something I have no interest in.

What I suppose I'm boiling it down too is, does the keywords have to have a low amount of searches, rather than the keyword having say a million searches per month?.

I'm currently reading through Smingles thread on a kick up the back side for affiliates. I see he mentions such statistics as:

27100 exact (165000 exact in dec)
£0.55 avg ppc
8 ads showing

What does the eight ads refer too? Sorry for the amount of questions, just want to get some strong footing to begin with, thanks.

8 ads showing - It means that there are 8 ppc ads currently appearing on Google for that particular keyword.

The trick is to find the keyword with the highest number of searches with the lowest competition. so have a million search a month and a lot of competition will not get you very far. You will need to find a healthy balance.

Thanks for your reply. It's as i assumed then.

The healthy balance is the diamond in the rough i see, is there a thread explaining the best way to use google keyword/adwords, explaining how to use it to it's fullest, regarding searching for keywords and finding a ratio of large searches and low competition?, maybe it's me being new to affiliation marketing, but it seems quite complicated.

I built a website years ago, for a game I use to play called counter strike, so I imagine I'll have no problems on the website building side of thing (I hope). The biggest problem seems to be in finding a Co.Uk not taken, that will have a chance in making some money, that has not already been saturated.
