Hi after looking at some of my content it seems some people have decided to copy parts of my content. Will this have a negative affect on my seo efforts.

One site is particular is using the following method:
    hxxp://domainname.com/electronics/music-player/www-mydomainname-com/mypage

This site seems to have my whole site on there. I have to say I don't really understand what the site above is doing - proably my lack of knowledge.

I saw some quite old threads on the subject of copying but was just looking for a bit of advice and am also wondering what this person is doing. This site above also seems to have copied some of my content elsewhere and linked it back to this site.

    Thanks Adam

People copying your content will definitely have a negative effect on your SEO and you need to report it, try contacting the webmaster then the hosting company then google. Hopefully you can get the webmaster to remove it without having to go any further

Sorry to disagree with everyone in this thread but frankly they are wrong.

I'll leave this here for you to make your own decisions:

Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Demystifying the "duplicate content penalty"

    Let's quote it exactly:

(Note that while scraping content from others is discouraged, having others scrape you is a different story;.)
    or:

    http://googlewebmastercentral.blogsp...-scrapers.html

Before diving in, I'd like to briefly touch on a concern webmasters often voice: in most cases a webmaster has no influence on third parties that scrape and redistribute content without the webmaster's consent. We realize that this is not the fault of the affected webmaster, which in turn means that identical content showing up on several sites in itself is not inherently regarded as a violation of our webmaster guidelines. This simply leads to further processes with the intent of determining the original source of the content—something Google is quite good at, as in most cases the original content can be correctly identified, resulting in no negative effects for the site that originated the content.
I really wish people would stop all this scare mongering with ill informed advice.

I've had people copy my content so badly that they have failed to take out the links in the copy which means they have created more backlinks for my site - they may not be the best quality links but it's great to free labour!

Promote your content more than the next guy. I did some writing work for a client who didn't pay in the end (hence upfront payments now or no work) and he legged it. I created a WP site, promoted the hell out of it and it's still #1 some 9 months later. I've made more money off that site every month than what he owed me.

You just gotta know how to make use of the content. Duplicate content only gets a slap if it's on the same domain.

Googles interpretation of what is duplicate and what isnt depends on where it found the content in the first place and at what time.

It is wholly possible that a new site could have content copied and published on a scraper site and the scrapper site hsving the 'authoritative tick box'

Saying that - google is pretty intelligent - keep publishing, you'll get the credit.
