    Hi Guys,

I appreciate that this has been asked lots of times !! but was wondering which hosting provider you would suggest . I am thinking of 1and1 at the moment as alot of people seem to be with them .

Also does my hosting provider need to be located in the uk if i am targeting the uk or does it matter ? i.e godaddy etc

Just looking for a bit advice . Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend webhost.uk.net or ukhost4u - lots of issues with hackers and billing. I use 1and1 for some sites - pretty reliable service, although it needs to be as the customer service is not great. In my experience, the country its hosted in does not make a huge difference to SEO. Don't recommend Godaddy - always trying to sell you something - busy and complex pages. If you want cheap I'd recommend Servage.net, they host in N Germany, I've had no major issues in three years. In the US I use Hostgator and Hostmonster - they are OK, although you do need to read the small print!!

    Good luck

    Hello,

I've just signed with a new host.Did a lot of research , asked lots of questions.
Are you looking for windows or linux , reseller or shared hosting? Are you technical minded ? Need quick turnaround?

Ideally the website should be hosted on UK servers when you are using a uk domain extension as it can influence search engine listings.

You can try searching on Google by entering something like host-name sucks or host-name scam etc. You can find some interesting comments from customers

You can try reading reviews sites as well.

Avoid 1&1 - ok for domain names but not for (hosting from what I've read on various forums). Rubbish support/customer service.

    Avoid hostmonster.

Heart Internet - good prices and packages but support is soso. I've used them previously. Support personnel quite on quite a few occasions didn't seem to answer their own questions and not what was asked. On some occasions they didn't even answer tickets. Cancelling contract can be a bit of drama. They took payments after account was closed and took forever to repay. If you Google Heart Internet sucks or similar terms you find lots of unhappy customers and same issues !

Cyberhostpro - tech support seem to be on the hostile side. Some a bit clueless. Also, didn't give the impression of wanting to help customers. Hence don't bother with this bunch of clowns.

Avoid uk2.net - lots of customer complaints.

Bear in mind , unhappy customers more likely to write posts then happy ones.

    What is your budget?

I used tsohost after reading lots of reviews, I've only been with them a month, but got to say, it's a great service. I emailed them about a problem I was having with the webmail, not one but two people got back to me, checked my website for me. Phoned them yesterday with a query, answered straight away, and the guy was polite and helpful.

I use nethosted myself, their reseller hosting has been fast and reliable and support are quick to reply with helpful responses when I've got in touch. Used them for 4 years or so now, very content!

I've recently moved to eUKhost and have to give them a Thumbs Up. Keen price, GREAT customer service (so far anywa as they helped me sort out some teething problems with the transfer of my sites) and they are always available either on their 0800 number or the webchat. Long may it last but so far so good.

Another vote for Tsohost. Lurking on here for a while I had seen people recommend them and needed a new host at the beginning of the year sharpish. Made the move and have been very pleased with the service ever since. Superb support. Sooo quick!

I'm with 1and1 at the moment, and I have to agree that their customer service really is awful, and i'm definitely thinking of a change following a recent incident.........................

I'm with Fasthosts and very happy with them so far. I've also got a few small packages with Heart and just as happy with them to be honest!

    Hi guys,

this might be a very stupid question and I can think of so many cliches but: I am based in Germany. Can I still host with the recommended providers? I am just starting out and the thing that stumps me most is the provider aspect

    Thanks guys & girls!
