    Hi all

Think I might be in the wrong place, but here goes .... hopefully someone can either help or point me in the right direction.

We have a small family business selling small domestic appliances mainly, and are quite keen to increase our internet presence and visibility via affiliate marketing.

We have dipped our toe in the water with PPC advertising, but that has not really worked well for us. We are currently in one small affiliate program, which seems to be working better and we are keen to try and expand this.

How do I find affiliate programs which we can join as merchants? We have been browsing the internet and came across a few, and I approached two but have not had any success. One of the (affiliate window) spoke to us and seemed positive enough, although they did mention we were a smaller company than they would normally take on, and were going to email us a proposal but we heard nothing else so I guess they feel we are too small. Another one (can't remember the name) we contacted via their contact us page on the website and have never heard back.

Any recommendations, advice or pointers would be very gratefully received to get us on the right track

    Thanks for your time

Have a chat with Paid On Results and they can set up an affiliate program via their network. Ideal for small businesses dipping their toes in the affiliate scene.

Or you can do an independent affiliate program. That would cost some money, but you will not belong to huge affiliate network, what I consider as a sort of benefit.

Depending on your set up, it's worth running your own private affiliate programme. It's quite easy to do - for example, you can get Wordpress plugins that will do everything for you.

Without knowing all the technical or cost related implications I know that at my work we are very happy with our independant affiliate. It is easier to manage your presence out there and you can take good care of your affiliates. With the networks you never know how frustrated they get with advertising for your product. I'd say independant is better, depending on the resources you have.

    1. You can join affiliate network(s) or setup your own affiliate program or do the both. You must qualify for joining a big network like CJ. Every popular network has a onetime fee to join. Later they will charge monthly (fixed + sale percentage). The best thing of joining a network is you will be in touch of a lot of affiliates immediately. But bad news your access to them are restricted and they will sell your competitors products too. So you face a stiff competition. Your control on the system is also limited.

There are some very low cost network you can if you have a very low budget.

    2. You can setup your own in-house affiliate program or even with your multiple websites you can create a mini network too. You have to buy an affiliate software license and install in your server. It will never expire and you will not need to pay every month for it. The cost is not too high. The worst thing is you have to run campaigns to line up some active affiliates to sell for you (in network you get in touch immediately you join). The best thing is, unlike affiliate network, you have the total control on the system and on the affiliates. They are yours and you can use the same affiliate base to sell your other products. Gain in long term.

    3. If you do the both, there is a chance that the some of network affiliates will like your in-house program and join it. Your total sales will be up!
