    Hi jherraez

I started first of all as an affiliate many years ago and just like you I searched for a forum and came upon this forum. It is worth looking through The Pool and visiting some of the contributors as they have advice sites with a lot of detailed information as to the varying types of affiliate marketing.

You do not need a website to become an affiliate but it can help. Some affiliates just concentrate on social media promotion for example.

If you do opt as many do for a website, then don't even bother with the "shopping" or "price comparison" sites. Instead pick a niche. I am going to post an affiliate site belonging to someone else on this forum who delivers thousands of pounds in sales and is a small affiliate. The Big Bang Theory is a niche site concentrating on the US/UK market for a particular television series and lists products for that show. It's effectively a fan based site.

Note the name as it relates to the series. The site is optimised for Search Engine Optimisation (something else to read about) and lists relevant content.

Now when you have thought of a niche you like then build a website and pack with content about it. Then search for affiliate programs related to that niche and apply to them. The Affiliate Manager will review your site and judge that it is relevant to their Brand/Product/Niche etc. They will then approve you. Then add their banners and text links and if technically minded, the contents of a datafeed which the merchant supplies.

Then use MARKETING to attract visitors to the site. You then earn a commission based on every sale referred (CPA), which is the standard model for affiliates.

free blog site is enough in the beginning, so you can start your affiliate busines from scratch. Just choose the right niche as competition is huge and it may take a year to get first results. If it is a first affiliate website, please do not expect quick earnings. Let ir be just additional and irregular income.

You can also use social media such as Facebook for your marketing - a blog is a good idea, but you can also set up a facebook 'fan' page for free (don't use your personal profile). If you're just starting out, though, I'd suggest you search around for some training - there's lots of free information available on the web - it's really important you understand what you're doing.

Try to stick with what you know, pick a niche that interests you personally. Not only will you know your product but it will keep the project more exciting and interesting for you.

I second that. In my opinion the best "affiliate" sites are the ones where you can feel that the author is really interested in the subject and not just in making money from his/her visitors. If you pick a niche that people have a emotional connection on top of that and they really feel your site adds value and they can relate to you, you have a winner.

They say about your sites - 'Be a Web Destination, not a Shopping Site' that encourages users to trust/benefit from using your site.

So, in all fairness - you haven't actually started in affiliate marketing, you're contemplating entering the space and need some guidance as to how to go about it.

You've received some good starting advice, use it well, and be prepared to put a lot of time and effort at the beginning for very little return - don't expect earnings from day 1, perseverance is the name of this game.

If you set up a basic website, you can then apply to join the various affiliate networks. Once in, you have access to all their affiliate manuals which provide some really good documentation on how to do things, tips & ideas and generally offer a lot of reference points.
