Mailchimp and Aweber are both popular options as well and easy to get to grips with. Your main tasks I would say would be generating the content for your emails and of course building up a list to distribute to.
I'd agree that it's advisable to use a high quality, user-friendly autoresponder such as Aweber. You also need to use your emails to develop a relationship with your list - you do this by initially providing good, valuable content for free - don't be tempted to start selling immediately. I think email marketing is becoming harder because people are sick of getting spam in their in-boxes and if you send out messages that are full of high-pressure sales pitches, people will just unsubscribe. You need to give value. Also take care how your emails are worded and structured - for example, a compelling 'subject line' can make all the difference as to whether someone opens your email or deletes it.
