Hello, I have the following affiliate website, www_carp_co_uk

It is ranking well in Google for decent keywords such as, carp, carp rods, carp reels, carp tackle and carp fishing tackle but is just failing to convert on sales.

Last month's affiliate windows stats as follows:

    635 clicks, 0.47% conversion, £5.97 revenue.

The website attracts around 200+ unique visitors a day, I am just struggling to get it to convert.

I admit I have been lazy with keeping the website updated with unique content and the introduction texts are awful, just looking for a bit of advice to point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance.

    Darren.

    Heres my initial opinion.

It looks like the website is a half-arsed attempt to be honest. seeing "this domain name is for sale" would instantly make me think that the webmaster has stopped developing on it and therefore the information on the site is old.

The top menu could be much better described for conversion purposes as well as stand out a bit more. For example the buttons say "common" or "koi" and really should say "Common Carp" or "koi pond Fish". This will not only help seo, but will also improve conversion. Although you may know what you're talking about, the visitor may not, so seeing a button named "common" is rather useless if they are not yet educated as to what you mean.

But the main reason you're getting no conversions through affiliate sites is because the advertising is poor. What do banners average at converting? something like 0.07% so what's the point. I would concentrate on suggesting equipment like fishing rods or bait using Easy content units or something.

First of all thank you for taking time to respond but i believe you could be looking at the wrong url?

    The website is www.carp_co_uk - not .org.uk

    Thanks, Darren.

Hahaha well that was a waste of 10 minutes. I really shouldn't be giving advice at the end of the day. I think it's home time.

Well firstly. You're side looks much better.

I think your problem could be your product pages. they look very datafeed-like. for example a random product i looked at: http://www.carp.co.uk/nash-siren-rs-...c-siren-r.html the copy looks small and without any spacing, it would put me off reading it. And your call to action is a little vague. Instead of a small "more info" button I'd have a larger "buy now" button.

Most of your traffic is probably hobbyists just looking for info not to buy, your conversion rate isn't that bad ... but could be better.

Pick out a few fishing rods that you would recommend, then do price comparison on them.

One thing I have noticed which may affect your traffic in the long-run from the page specified above on sirens...

"The RS-1 is the first alarm system with two - way radio providing volumne, tone and sensitivity functions that are operated remotely via the receiver enabling you to change your volumne , tone and sensitivity settings from the comfort of your bivvy. With the RS-1 you can operate and adjust the sensitivity"

I Copied and pasted this into google search bar and there are alot of sites using this exact same content (About 10,100 results)... Unique content will get you better conversions in the long run, and will also get you better search rankings...
