Just a quick question for anyone who may have an answer.
I Am using wordpress on my site along with Yoast's SEO plugin. It generates the .xml sitemap as domain/sitemap_index.xml as opposed to just domain/sitemap.xml
These are submitted to Google and Bing and seem to be working correctly, however, when I check those SEO checking websites, it always says I don't have an XML Sitemap... Presumably they are just looking for sitemap.xml with their tool and don't auto-search the variants.
Is this something I should worry about since my current sitemaps are accepted by search engines? I Don't feel it is, I just hate seeing a red X next to it on the report when I know it's there...
Your thoughts and recommendations on this please![]()
Didn't think so, it just annoys me that these guys haven't adapted their analysis scripts to locate a sitemap properly...... and I can't edit my robots.txt file through wordpress to include a direct path to it which would have been a simple solution, but I suppose this is probably a good thing as it will limit what scrapers and these scripts will find from my site for whatever evil purpose they could use it for... hehehe
How are you finding Yoast as a plugin? Any problems? Easy to use? I've had a look at it and it looks ideal.

It's really useful and very easy to use. Still finding new functions and ways of doing things after a few months of using it, and the integrated SEO analysis provided by Linkdex before you even publish your page, is a very useful aid.
I just noticed today that i had been missing out a couple of boxes of SEO that should really improve my ratings once i get all of the pages sorted out. Relearning terminology is what i have had to do alot of, and also get my target keywords more specific to my posts.
With the tags , i do use them and i allow them to be indexed in my XML sitemap, but i don't have them showing on my HTML sitemap page. I Don't allow any of my archive pages to be listed on on either though to prevent it appearing as duplicate content within the site. It's a fine line sometimes with that.
things in general looking up, just wish webgains was back up as i need to see how my balls-up with my php file has affected me :/ Don't think i have had any traffic clicking through from my site as there was an extra " in a bloody php, so none of my outbound affiliate links have been working since the 17th.... Once i get these pages sorted, will be time to sort out links to my site (still not sure what path to take that yet though.....)
