That's the week that the Google data refresh finished. How old is your site? How do you know it's been penalised?
Hello everyone,
I started to take action and IM seriously the past 2 weeks and put up a review website for a hot Amazon product via their associates program. I have written 15 articles of 1,000 words at a minimum for each product. I started to see some sales in fact and I was so excited !
Problem is on Friday my website was blown off google for its keyword (Cant find it on first 25 pages)... What happened and why was a penalised
- I added REL="NOFOLLOW" to all affiliate links
- I made sure all content was unique and written from scratch
- I didn't do any illegal backlinking
- Adsense are half way down the page (no where near the fold)
Really upset because I put so much effort into this website only to be stopped instantly. I have sent google a reconsideration request relating to being penalised and if they can revoke it.

First.. don't panic
Second.. what were your rankings like before this change happened
third.. check where you rank for those keywords presently (use seoserp or traffictravis to see your present rankings) or just check manually (use chrome's incognito mode as well)
You mentioned this happened on Friday.. so its two days gone already.. have you noticed any changes in your rankings?
Could be a mere Google dance for all you know.
Other factors to consider, how old is the domain
Website is about 2 weeks old, all followed strict SEO rules.
Its still indexed via 'site:*domain*' but not on the first 25 pages for an insanely low keyword competition and its just gone off the face of googles pages completly.
2 weeks old and in the index but not ranking. 99% certain that it's the newness which is causing your issues. Give it a month or two, see if it returns to where you think it should rank.
Don't worry.
I had a medium sized site launch a year ago. Great results for a few weeks, then virtually nothing. Then came back at 1/4 volume, then went down to almost nothing again. Then back stronger than the start, then stabilised at about 2/3 until last few days when something has put a rocket up it. I'm presuming its the latest data refresh. This all took a year - I forget the exact timings.
Nice Google, kind Google, give it a nice pat and it won't hurt you, just don't turn your back. Worst thing that can happen is that you give up on a site and then accidentally discover all the visitors have come back and are hitting links that don't work. (been there done that etc).
If there isn't anything wrong with the site, wait a month or so at least and then make a judgement.
Think of it another way. How would you 'test' a new site if your were G's algorithm ?
Stick it up there, measure what happens, go away and digest and compare with existing data, put it back, see if the results are similar etc. etc. Its a data cruncher and it has to have data to work - lots of it.
New sites jump around the results loads when they first start - it's very normal. Keep going, that you have had sales suggests you are doing something right.
Keep doing what you're doing and in a few years time you'll look back and be glad you carried on.
