I'm looking to do all the research I can on the niche that I'm about to enter. Specifically a variation of online poker: Pot Limit Omaha.

I have been using Google KeywordSearch to do my key word research. One term that stands out with a decent number of searches/month globally is 'Omaha Hi' with 27,000 searches. Omaha Hi and Pot Limit Omaha are essentially the same thing.

    Is 27,000 a good number?

There are other variations of the phrase Pot Limit Omaha, such as Pot Limit Omaha strategy, Pot Limit Omaha Hi Lo etc. And I have compiled all the key words and phrases with decent to significant number of searches on a monthly basis. The total figure I have is just over 100,000. Not sure how accurate it is doing it this way and I'm sure some of those numbers should overlap. Any thoughts on this?

    Many thanks!

u should also consider the number of 'exact' matches and whether the terms you're targeting are likely to convert.

also consider the settings (i.e. geographic locality)

im currently running an seo comp in the pain relief niche where i've advised affs to target terms that attract approx 50k/10k global/local broad searches. hope that helps as a guide

You'll also want to consider your competition. Take a look at the sites already ranking for this term and consider whether Google will realistically put yours ahead of them.

The big sites will have millions to spend on marketing, what is your budget and how do you plan to get an edge over them?

I think the above two replies sums it up. You need to look at exact matches + competition. Anything above 20k should be good, broadly speaking.. but also choose keywords with long tail variations as well. In most cases the keywords one tends to target actually turns out to be otherwise, so spend more time on keyword research before you plunge in.

P.S: Gambling is a highly competitive niche.
