The search is a 2 word specific item of clothing, 33,100 local searches last month and 82,100 pages listed in google.

    Thanks
For a rough quick, visual guide - use this tool - https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/KeywordToolExternal - perform your search and then select "Show search volume trends" from the "Choose colums to display" drop down menu.

    14,000 exact match last month

Get to number one and that will give you 700 hits per month or there abouts.

I would take it but I'm not buying anymore domains for now.
I think you missed a 0 off the end. I would expect nearer 7000 hits rather than 700

No, I was using 5% as the click through rate. All of my sites that are number one in Google get about 4-5% of the exact match from Adwords clicking through. The 40% figure does sound better but from my experience it does not happen.

Looks like it is a Wordpress site but I could be wrong.

There doesnt seem to be that much written content on there but it is still ranking very well. Is that all down to back links?

Cheers, Im still pretty new to wordpress but I think I could manipulate it to be similar to that (or the parts I need anyway).

I would guess its all down to backlinks. I remember reading somewhere if you google "Click Here" the first site that comes up us Adobe Reader - which doesnt have the words "click here" anywhere on the site! Its ranked purely on backlinks.

As for the clickthrough rateI have a couple of sites ranking at number 1. Rather than trust the Googl estimates I set up an adwords campaign to see the number of searches. One of my sites gets about a 75% ctr and the other gets about a 45% ctr. 5% for ranking first seems very low to me?

Yeah seems pretty low to me too but Im using GKWT for data - havent setup an adwords ad to test it though. Image that would be quite expensive.

Not if you go it "properly". I set up a campaign for about 10 keywords, make a totally irrelvant advert up (I put an ad for my web design site on searches related to fashion etc) let it run for a couple of days, didnt get a single click (which is good), but I did get to see exactely what was being searched for

Hope that helps. I found the Keyword tool to be pretty much useless. Search for "xbox avatar awards" or "avatar awards" according to google there is "not enough data". I rank top for both and they bring in about 15k uniques per month. I have other words I rank top for which bring in hardly any, built on the fact keyword tool says it gets loads of searches only to find out it doesnt!

Feels strange that a few weeks ago I hardly knew anything about this sort of stuff, now im giving out advice

Ok, Heres a niche for someone.

    www. carjacks .org.uk

    Searches - "Car Jack" = 6,600 & "Car Jacks" = 2,900.

I think Halfords is 5% or 1% reserve in store. Jacks range in price from £30-100 (only had a quick look) so if you say an average basket value of £40 (£2.00 commission).

Combined searches of 9500 per month, very little competition, 1st position would give about 3800 clicks. If you get a 2% conversion rate, 76 orders about £150 a month.

Not a massive amount but it looks like quite an easy niche so good for a learner. If you can find a different affiliate (that doesnt have loads of high street stores) you could get a better conversion rate.

I've got a few tool sites with similar keywords matches and prices and I get hardly any clicks being at number one. Would be interesting to hear from whoever gives it a go and what happens. If I thought I could make 150 a month from it I'd snap it up right now!!

Tip: The easiest (and crudest) way to check a site is wordpress site is add /wp-admin/ to the domain name and / or check for the following in the source code

    <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2. somethinghere

Based on these quick checks iI would say undewear.co.uk isn't a WordPress based site

Can I ask how did a adwords account show you what was being searched for ?

    Cheers,
