I'd be tempted to take both as its annoying when the other one crops up in the SERPs a bit later on.

For the cost of a domain, I would buy both, build the site on co.uk, then if its successful could always build another unique site on the org.uk

Personally i'd save my money and go with the .co.uk - if that wasn't available i'd go with the .org.uk. If someone wants to target the same niche buying both isn't going to stop them!

I personally never use datafeeds, as I believe that the website could be "seen" more clearly as an affiliate site to the search engines, and we know how much google dislikes affiliate sites, and it looks set that google will try and alienate as many affiliate sites as possible in the future.

    All imo of course.

Just been going over this forum again. As much as the static pages are better in Frank's opinion, it's going to require a lot more work to maintain isn't it? As you have to constantly go back and update the pages?

If both redwidgets.org.uk & redwidget.org.uk are available domains, but
redwidget.org.uk has 4000 EM searches and redwidgets.org.uk has 2000 EM searches.

    Which option is best:

    1. Buy the singular redwidget.org.uk only?
    Or
    2. Buy both, and for example, develop redwidgets.org.uk only and redirect redwidget.org.uk to this? Is there any advantage in this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Or
    3. Buy both and develop sites with two different sets of unique content, the same products and maybe the same template, and rank with two sites rather than just one?

That idea was seeded by someone else on here and I've come to appreciate that it's possibly the best option.

Static pages are much better! Have you looked at Easy Content Units?

With ECU you are getting the best of both worlds, you build your page of unique content, then add the 'dynamic' items wth ECU. The ECU part is not read by the Search Engines and as such doesn't trigger any duplicate content or affiliate penalties, it's also updated for you, saving you the need to constantly update prices and other information.

If you need any help or ideas just ask!

I think someone has already covered this but I didn't know what to search for in this thread.

This is just an example as I don't want to give away what the domain is. Say I had HDTV.org.uk but HDTelevision.org.uk was also available, should I purchase that too? If I was to, what should I do with it, redirect to the other or produce a completely different looking site so they compete against each other?

I would buy both, build one and see how it gets on.

HDTelevision.org.uk would not be getting any traffic so there's little point in redirecting it to HDTV.org.uk. You would only redirect a domain if its your own brand, or you've bought out a competitor and you're redirecting their visitors to your site.

You could always put a "domain for sale" page on your 2nd one while you build the 1st

Right, I'm going to create a mobile phone site and there aren't really any widgets for it on ECU. I want to create static pages but from the data feeds if that makes sense.

I'm just not sure what to do with the feeds. Do I dump it all into one database table, so say from Awin I'm getting e2Save and Dialaphone, lump it altogether in one feed and into one table?

I'm just a bit stumped on how to use the feeds effectively, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Me too :blush. And I do not use Wordpress, so no plugin for datafeeds. I hope someone shows us the light in the tunnel soon

Hi Sichiu - This is something we're working on, although it's hard for me to give a definitive timescale atm. Rest assured it's in the pipeline though!

You might also want to consider that the mobile phone market is VERY competative! If you're starting out it might be a good idea to look at some other varied verticals.
