Automatic adjustment of search results

something odd has just happened with some search results on G

The best example I can find is this.

search for car insurance. dont click on any results.

then search for times tables.

the second set of results takes into account the first search term and returns ads for

'car insurance tables'

... maybe this has been happening for years, but its new to me.

hmmm not so sure it's a winner

imagine you are paying £3 a click for car insurance, that's an impression served for a totally irrelevant second search term, if that does count as a normal impression that's just diluted your CTR

sure the user has expressed an interest but historically so and has now searched for something totally different.

also if anyone is flogging times tables, then that's an impression missed as they are showing car insurance links instead

I notice it doesn't work the other way around heh.. the 10-20p ? times tables clicks don't show instead of the few quid car insurance ones

a test feature for something hopefully more refined to come later unless it's google's expanded broad match getting even slacker !
