Had it up to here with them!!

I've been running adwords for a dating site for 2 months now and every day the search term 'couples' is always the most popular with 25,000 impressions, 225 clicks and a 5.1 position in ranking over that 2 month period.

I've looked at the Keyword Analysis for that term and it's always been spot on for the Quality Score and costing me around 5p per click.

Today it's been slammed to £2.50 and the reason is because it doesn't reflect my landing page or content.

I've also had 12 of my 15 keywords made inactive and these are the first since the first few days of the site being up.

I'd let the site live organically but I think it's a bit too soon for that with only 1 in 10 of my hits coming from somewhere other than Google.

Would taking it off Adwords be a good move for a couple of weeks or should I just accept it?

welcome to the fun that is G$$gle

I've a buddy with a first position listing on google for his main keyword naturally on Serps

So obviously google has said that his page is the most relevant out of the millions of other pages on natural search yet adwords says his main keyword is very irrelevant to his content on that page and should be £5.00 per click

funny how it's the highest volume keyword it normally nails and not the very low volume, low competition ones, which genuinely aren't as relevant to the page content as it's normally tailored more towards the high volume keywords.. makes ya sick heh..

accept it

My site was penalised for a term and went up to £2.50 to £5 , yet at the same time they ranked me #1 naturally for both the 2 main terms i wanted so they are doing 1 thing and saying another

Use another domain url and redirect, that'll get you going again, although it might take a few hours to go through!!!

Try changing a word or two in your ad copy. You may be being caught in the 'not enough clicks per impression' trap - the more clicks you get, the less you pay for the higher positions. You many be being penalised if Google can only 'see' your visitors on the landing page and is not able to track them when they visit the internal pages of your site. Google does use all those free scripts it gives webmasters to help it to track your visitors and earn more from advertising.

When you say that 1 in 10 visitors are not coming from Google, does 'Google' mean natural results or Adwords? How are the visitors who are converting coming to your site? How many repeat visitors / existing users are you counting in those stats? How many direct hits?

The only way you can make a realistic decision on what to do about your PPC campaign is to analyse your raw logs and track back to the source each one of your visitors who contacted you in some way, i.e. signed-up for free or paid membeship of your site. Once you know their route to you, particularly the search phrase they used, then you can plan your future campaigns.

You may be able to get back cheaper rates by limiting your campaign to the 4 to 6 word phrases that are actually bringing you your conversions.
