    Hi Guys

    Just a quickie.

I am reviewing one or two sites and have a different view point on where to go with them. I am thinking of doing the following

www.siteA.whatever is the 'mother site' (full of content with cat links to sub-doms)

and the sub-doms looking like www.siteA.whatever/product_range/

Anyone have a stand point as to why/if Google may like/dislike this set up?

I think there may not be an issue but I stand ready for correction

Can you just clarify is the current structure for the main site:

www.siteA.domain.com with the sub folder suggested as being www.siteA.domain.com/sub-folder/

Google shouldn't have a problem with running the site like this. Any particular reason for not simply going with www.domain.com for the main site and then sticking /sub-category/sub-folder in instead? Or is it a bit like del.icio.us???

yah thats not a sub domain its a folder.

    sub.domain.com
    is a dub domain

    domain.com/sub
    is a folder

and in answer to your question sub domains, unless radically different to your main site are devalued (thank ebay for that last year) and will require their own IBL's to rank whereas folders are just part of your sites content.

Sub-domains are not inheritantly 'devalued', just that you may not get the benefit of being seen as part of the main domain, in the same way that a sub-folder would be.

only because less effort is put into making them different and into promoting them.
