Where to go now?

Hi,

I have been working on a mobile phone site www/themobilephoneshack/co/uk (replace / with dots).

I have some pages of unique content on reviews and such and I have now started to work with data feeds producing deal pages. I have dug some of the pages and popped a few free adverts on various sites to get some back links.

Traffic wise I have not had much luck a few people here and there from yahoo, digg and once in a blue moon some from Google.

So the big question (which I am sure a lot of people ask and excuse me asking but I am at my wits end) what now how do people get the traffic and the sales?

Does it have to ppc or is there something I am missing?

Any help would be really appreciated all the hardwork put it and nothing from it is very disheartening.

Hi,

Some questions:

1. How often are you submitting your site to social news sites like Digg?
2. How often are you doing social bookmarking?
3. What about your link building? - very important
4. Are you on twitter? join and look for some "mobile" niches and start joining the chat (traffic)
5. Are you writing articles and submitting them to the main article directories?
6. Are you indexing the articles and getting back links to them?
7. Are you on squidoo, hubpages...?
8... more and more

If you have a sequence it will help you, remember it is like a plant if you dont give it water it will die

I am by no means an expert on SEO but I think your on-site SEO could probably be improved.

Your h1 tag is your domain name, and that stays the same on every page.

For each product page I would have thought that you would be better served with the name of the product being the h1 tag.

If you read Smingle's SEO guide that puts it much better than I could.

I also think that personally the long text review might be better broken up with some titles so that people can scan easier and find out the key information a bit quicker. I would want to know size of screen, megapixels for camera etc and if you put them in bold font at least it draws in the eye.

Obviously do everything James has also recommended - but that can be time consuming - if you improve the on-page SEO people might come of their own accord.

And one last thing I noticed!

I've even been off and had a look at keywords. It struck me that people didn't seem to be looking for reviews of individual products although I'm sure they are and that will be your long-tail keywords, but were looking for phrases like Motorola reviews, samsung mobiles.

I wonder whether you could incorporate the brands as categories. As it's a wordpress site you could also make use of plugins like similar posts or related posts so people can see reviews of similar phones. It helps with internal linking and might make your site a bit more sticky.

Hi James,

I am only digging a page now and again. The same with the social networking as such if you mean things like reddit and such? Can I digg the same page more than once?

Writing I find hard but I know it is very important so I have not wrote anything to submit to anywhere I am not sure where to submit to?

With link building the only way I have seen of doing this is through digging and free adverts on gumtree and such. Not sure how to expand my link building again I am sure there is more reading I need to do.

I will have a look at squidoo and hubpages as well.

All of this I am new at, the only thing I do know is data and manipulating it which is what I do for a living so the datafeed side if of it to me is second nature except of course when they screw up the feeds!

Thanks very much for your reply.

I thought the H1 stuff an all that was dealt with Wordpress so have not realy looked at that side of things. I know I might not be using categories correctly.

I have the SEO plugin but will look at the other plugins you mention.

Hi Chris

Wordpress is SEO'd well. But often the themes let it down by using the h1 tag for the main title of the blog - which can be helpful sometimes and sometimes not.

I made a very similar mistake using one of the revolution themes which everyone raves about. When I replaced the blog title with a logo I was left with no h1 tag on the home page - at all!

9. Write a how to about it.
10. Write a press release to launch it.
11. Social bookmark it.

You know that the software bit I have considered maybe some datafeed software for Wordpress as I write datafeeds and such for data warehouses for a living. Also I have developed something for my own website but its held together with plasters and such at the moment as its only for me. Maybe I will productise it?
