Apparently its not something that has filtered down to the UK search results (yet) - brands are now ranking higher than they were before!

don't be so quick to follow people's comments. There's a lot more gooing on "under the hood" that if you see data that supports one theory it may just be a side effect of something else.

I always modify my SEO strategies based on my own imperical evidence, but start investigating the data when I see people talking about major shifts. I don't change those policies based on hear-say.

And grey wolf says not a lot in his rant. My view is "so what, if its an update, tweak, mofication or whatever"! If it doesn't affect you then put it to the back of your mind. SEO'ers get so caught up in the excitement of what they see as updates, with so few ranking updates these days that make noticable changes, its understandable - but SEO'ers should focus on what happens to their own sites and clients and not sensasionalise unimportant stuff.

Bored now, time for some real analysis based on real data affecting real people.

The point Graywolf was making is that although Google may not see what happened as an "update" (which obviously has a clear, specific meaning to them internally) to the whole of the rest of the world, it was; to quibble about the semantics will merely confuse a lot of n00bs, who will be confused as to whether there was a change or not, rather than whether it was what G would consider an "update", or just a tweak to some parameters

Yeah, but that's just not what happens in practice, is it? Most of what is said, is said because of a lack of hard information. Nature abhors a vacuum, so *something* has to take it's place

Hmmmm, well, I'm not a brand & I've received a real slapping :sneaky

Did have about a dozen top 30 key phrases, but now 80% of my positions have disappeared completely, the rest have plummeted to around 300th spot & I have no idea what I can do about getting them back - that's 18 months work completely down the toilet thanks to one Google algorithm change!!!

And because they "own" search nowadays, is that the end of my online business as a result? :scared

I think that is a good idea...

There has been so much emphasis on key word strong ranking, if you are a brand there tends to be a stronger importance given to quality as you are building a brand, rather than goodkeyword.org.uk getting put up their with a pile of datafeed crap ...

I think it is about time this imbalance was addressed ..
