I have noticed on one of my wordpress sites that when i do a new blog post, google picks the individual post within minutes, so all good.

However when I search for the blog title the home page comes up first in google rather than the individual post.

Can anyone advise why this is, or how I can amend my site so the individual posts have more power.

When you say you search for the blog title do you mean the title of the individual post or the title of your blog as a whole?

If its the title of the blog as a whole this makes sense. If it's the second option, and your searching for the title of your post I'd hazard a guess that it's because your homepage has authority over the post page until google has settled down after initially indexing the page.

So if you made a new post today, shortly it would be indexed in google and if you search for the post title your homepage will rank above that post for the title. Give it a few days and it would show the post above the homepage.

I'm only guessing though and might be wrong.

Bascially , the home page is, ranking for terms which are in the individual post, like the page title or the first exerpt ( which is on the home page too)

So I guess yeah the home page has more authority than the individual page, I am not sure if this is good or bad.
    Maybe I worry too much.

I need to look at internal linking, I cant remember if I have used any plugins like the robot meta /

If the blog is new, basically the home page hasn't got much oubound trust yet, so the internal pages are effectively poorly served. Time will sove this. Have the first few posts started to rank for their titles etc yet?
