    Hi guys,

I originally launched the site in Jan(ish) and have written pages and pages of unique content, as well as built over 1000 backlinks (over that time) to the site.

Traffic was going well until about the 20th March and then dropped almost 90%. Most of my traffic was from google.co.uk
Now my traffic is still at 10% of what is was and most is coming from yahoo.com (US).
I have checked webmaster tools and it says targetting is still UK, and reports no errors or penalties.
I am at a complete loss here as to what the issue could be. The site is Nintendo DSI Console | Nintendo DSI

If anyone, anywhere has any ideas for me that would be greatly appreciated.

    Marc

Have you asked about this on the google webmaster forum?

I have a geo location problem with one of my sites, its receiving over 45% of its traffic from the US eventhough ive done everything i can to tell google its based in the UK.

I asked a question in the webmasters forum yesterday and have had one reply.

Im dissapointed with that realy as the reply was more about slateing my site because im an affiliate.

But from other threads ive read on there sometimes you can get some quality responses.

I'm no seo expert, but I wonder whether the speed at which you have acquired backlinks might be an issue. 10 new links a day seems a lot to me.

This is a .org.uk so don't think that would be the issue.

The site ranks #60 in google.co.uk for nintendo dsi console and #69 in google.co.uk for nintendo dsi so I doubt it's a penalty.

What keywords were bringing the traffic in? Have you changed anything around the time the traffic dropped?

It will help if you hide the affiliate links.

Best way to hide affiliate links?

Or search google for stuff like "mask affiliate links" you will find loads of info on how to do it.

Did you do anything to your blog on or close to that day? eg.

    • Changed the site structure?
    • Installed new plugins?
    • Had a large spike in pageviews, but not visitors?
    • Got some dubious backlinks?

Your site is on page 6 of google for the domain name, so this, on the face of it, appears to be a -50 penalty from google - -30 or -50 penalty recovery. How ?

    Good luck.

Well, before the 'penalty' I was ranking position 7 for 'nintendo dsi', 8 for 'dsi console' and 4 for 'nintendo dsi consoles'.
Also the site stopped ranking number 1 for its own name about a week ago. I was getting tons of traffic from long tail KW as well, which has also stopped.

I do mask most affiliate links. The only 1 I could not mask was the amazon ones.

    Hi scriptmonkey,
The only thing I did (a few weeks before mind you) was to buy 1 link. I have since removed this link and sent a reconsideration request about 4 weeks ago but have not heard anything back yet.
The site only stopped ranking for its name about a week ago, although traffic issues happened over a month ago.
If I pm you the site I bought the link from could you tell if it is a little dodge?

    thanks,
    Marc

Can you double check the ranking from your end? As it's ranking fine for me - www.nintendodsiconsoles.org.uk - Google Search

Try this search, which will paint a clearer picture of whats happening, nintendodsiconsoles - Google Search

Page 6 position 55, and, lets face it, without some kind of penalty, you should be number 1 for that search term.

I've dug a little deeper Marc, and found that some of your linkbuilding appears to be a little on the spammy side :td t3.com for example
