I have failed to get many backlinks to my site. I have submitted quite a few articles to digg and redit over the months but none show up when I google my backlinks?

So I was about to get my credit card out and pay for Yahoo to review my site for consideration to their directory listing. But then thought is it worth it? How is it likely I will get accepted?

Anyone have any experience on this?

    Cheers

    Chris

Didn't appear to make any difference to us, but it certainly hasn't done any harm, our site ranks extremely high in google anyway so its hard to tell there, but it certainly didn't make a any difference with yahoo rankings and can't remember ever seeing a single click recorded from the directory.

I doubt ill be renewing it next year unless something noticable happens.

To be honest I think the directory is worth it for a new website whom is starting out and has little SEO done with the site.

The directory can help gain more visitors and sometimes may up your serps but this isnt always guaranteed, so my advice is invest the 299 in seo instead. Like get an article writer to write you a few articles about your website and submit it to article directories like ezine for example.

Just my opinion, but Yahoo directory is a good advantage.

Being listed in the Yahoo Directory is not important as it once was. There is however, still some benefit to being listed in the directory. The value of being listed in the Yahoo Directory may in fact be in the eye of the beholder as the value will differ with each and every site.

If you have the budget to spare, then register. It has its advatages in ranking in the Yahoo SERPs and there are still a number of people that use Yahoo directory

Otherwise, just invest it on something more practical that you would see immediate results like advertising.

    Thanks Guys.

I would spend on advertising but I have just had 80% of my first month of sales rejected by CPW. So I am out of pocket and wondering what to do next?

    Cheers

Sound about right for a mobile phone merchant, extremely risky paying for ppc for those unless you're a complete pro at it.

We offer extremely cheap advertising, and you can put as many backlinks to your site as you want.

It seems to be the merchant I was using which tbh someone on here did warn me by telling me some horror stories but buy then I was committed for the month.

Advertising I have tried cheap advertising including the likes of Gumtree and it did not seem to work. Very cheap had a lot of tyre kickers to my site no sales.

I'd invest in it as part of my over all link building startegy but I wouldn't expect massive benefits from just one link, even if it is from the Yahoo directory.

Hi Chris, I was reading your article I have asked that question many times and the answer is this if you have lots of money it would not hurt to be listed in yahoo but there other ways to get more hits which lets be honest that’s what we are all after!! Right what you need to do is look at who is linking to your site or blog and look for quality sites to link to please make sure your site is relevant and the other site is also. Writing blogs is a good way but you must write something every day as its fresh information search engines love it.
    Regards
    Michael

Much better off getting listed in DMOZ - simply because it is free and may well bring you further backlinks from other sites. Google says avoid paid links - that's basically what Yahoo directory is.

Hey - it will help your search engine rankings. have you looked at more basic options such as submitting articles to directories such as ezinearticles.com?
