    Hi,

I am really struggling to get any sort of decent ranking on google for one of my web sites racing-game.co.uk for any of the search term I have tried to target.

For example, searching for 'racing game':
On Yahoo I am ranked 4th.
    On Bing (live.com) I am ranked 10th.
On Google I cannot find my site anywhere in the results.

However my site is listed as site:racing-game.co.uk search returns plenty of results.
I have my sitemap registered on the google dashboard, and it is not reporting any problems.
My site is approx 3 months old, and it has recently jumped from a Google PR0 to PR2, but this had no effect on position.

If I search for more specific terms I can find my site i.e. a search for 'specialist car racing game' lists my site at position 5, although I think this is quite poor, especially as one of my press releases on free-press-releases.com is listed at position 2.

I think I have done my titles, meta data, h1, etc tags correctly. I have also spent quite a lot of time on the content.

    Any advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Steve

There's a pretty simple solution, and that is you need to get a lot more high quality backlinks into your site. If you look at the top ranked sites on Google you will see they have hundreds of links into their site, and in order to compete, yours needs to have the same.

    Here are 3 quick tips:

TIP ONE: you have no links from your own site pointing back to the homepage with the keyphrase 'racing game' as the anchor text. you should fix that!

TIP TWO: you're fighting yourself for the term 'racing game'.

    your homepage title tag is:

Racing Game | Car Racing Game | Bike Racing Game | Street | F1 | Kids | Racing Games

your other title tags are formatted as:

    Racing Game | PS2 Racing Games | Games for PS2 | PS2 Games for Kids | Sony Playstation 2

so almost every page on your site is actually trying to rank for 'racing game', when really you just want one page to do that. If I was you I'd stick closer to the key terms for each, eg:

    Homepage title tag: Racing Game
Alternative version: Racing Game - #1 Site for Racing Games
PS2 page title tag: PS2 Racing Game - Sony Playstation 2 Racing Games

TIP THREE: wikipedia is ranking well for your key term. Your site is (somewhat) relevant to the term. Add yourself as an external link. Have a look at who's linking to the sites above you in the rankings & approach them for links yourself. Here's the listing for who's linking to that wikipedia page:

    link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racing_game -site:wikipedia.org - Yahoo! Search Results

To make your site more relevant to the search engine, concentrate on the right keywords for your important pages. Then you can get to know about your main competitors by just writing those keywords on some of the leading search engines. Look at the page rank of first 20 or so results. Then you can design your own marketing strategies and techniques by analyzing what techniques they have adopted to attain that rank.

There are lots of things along with web ranking which you can analyze on your competitor's sites. These things involve the impact of their home page, the organization and efficacy of the content, the simplicity of navigation in the site and the speed of loading along with the overall performance of the site.

If you understand what your competitors have implemented, you will get a better idea of what else to target for high rankings in Google.
