To interlink or not?

Hi :-)

I've always avoided even placing one link on my websites to another of my domains. But using Yahoo's backlink tool, I can see many examples of competitors ranking higher than me who are creating their own backlinks from their own sites. Some sites ranking well in google ONLY have links from their other domains.

My thinking has always been that this will get you into trouble with google so I've avoided it. But at the same time, it obviously has some impact at the moment.

What's everyone else's take on this one?

The domain name which you want to rank good in search engines should definitely have number of quality backlinks. This backlinks can be from other websites or your own websites. It's recommended to have relevant backlinks instead of loads of backlinks from irrelevant websites. For example if its a web hosting company website then it should have backlinks from web hosting blogs, web hosting articles site etc.

Backlinks from other websites and a strong internal linking structure would definitely boost your website ranking. :tup

cross linking is fine but don't over do it with loads of links, especially if the sites have little relevance. For best result write some copy with target KW's and within the copy link back (with target KW as anchor text) to your site.
