If you're blogging then you can go up the rankings shortly after posting and then back down again, i.e. the position you had is very temporary. Maybe it's that?

Looking at my stats I often see the referrer as Google for a term I hadn't thought of. Clicking to see my place for that term I'm not there!
How come the visitor got to me from that page if I can't see my site listed?

Thanks but it's neither of those. These are usually on my product pages that are just from a datafeed, so that page isn't even unique content either!

I think it is just a temporary position in Google as accelerator says.
I do quite often see results from Bing (or previously Live) though for great keywords like "broadband" but when I click on the URLs am nowhere to be seen - shame because page one on Bing for "broadband" would I'm sure be quite lucrative! Not sure what's causing this - either I am very briefly ranking there, or there is some problem with the referring URL.
