One of my squidoo lenses is now PR 3, which is nice.
PR is ranking and reward from Google.. not only for trading link.. but google syaes high ranked sites have priority in SERP than low ranked site....
Page Rank affects about 20% of how well you rank in Google so I would say it is good to have a high page rank but it does not necessarily put you in the top SERP. Having a good link building strategy does.

You are right and also, Higher PR sites get indexed more frequently as compared to other low PR sites.

I have a site which google continue to mess with. It's gone from GR2, to G3, to G6 and back to G3, upto G4 and now is G0 zilch !
Hasn't affected the traffic, I get more now then I did when it was G6.
A lot less spam linking though :-)
I don't think PR matters at all as long as you are getting traffic.
