When this has previously been discussed, someone has given an example of a .uk.com ranking well, but I can't remember what it was. I reckon you could make them rank if necessary, but I feel that is true of many extensions, you might only get problems if you are trying to rank specifically for UK searches, then a .co.uk would be better. The .uk.com is actually a .com domain, and you are just buying a subdomain of the domain Creditcards - UK.com.

    I own a few .uk.com though

I said the same thing in the original posters trhead pretty much. As far as I've seen (I've never owned a uk.com) it seems that they can rank, but you don't get the initial exact match boost you get with something like a .com / .net / .co.uk etc etc.

There is a thread on .uk.net's as well that Smingle started a while back looking for some examples.

First problem is that they are sub-domains not full domains.

Next, search for any keyword you like, do you see a uk.com? Yes, I'm sure you can find one or two examples but do you normally see these domain extensions, no, me neither.

I can name one but they have 000s of backlinks and the owners of the site are both SEO experts.

What keywords are you looking to rank for? I'm sure we can help you find a co.uk or org.uk domain instead of the uk.com.

You can do a 301 redirect to pass the link juice through. This works well in this type of circumstance.

.htaccess on Apache, find a Win Certified Techno-Mage to do the equivalent on a WIndoze box (actually you can get .htaccess mods for WIn now)

Assuming you keep the same site structure just drop the following rule in your .htaccess file replacing newdomain.com with your new domain.

This will forward all the request to their correct location.

    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

If you do a inurl:.uk.com command on google, e.g. inurl:.uk.com - Google Search

You will find some of the top domains which have a .uk.com domain. E.g.

unicycle.uk.com/ then do a search for "unicycle" and you will see that the .uk.com comes top.

Same for greenenergy.uk.com/ search for "green energy" and the .uk.com comes top on google.

avon.uk.com search fro "avon" and again the .uk.com

I agree it is not the best type of domain but it appears that it can rank well on google.
