Where is the best place to learn SEO, books and articles etc?

There is no way I am paying $150 there must be articles that are free and books experts have written?
Where have people learned SEO?
Then just join for free and get all his free stuff.
A great place to start, which is free and doesn't suggest that SEO is some kind of magical wizardry, is here..
Free SEO tutorial :: free search engine optimization tutorials :: Learn SEO
This tutorial has been around for at least 5 years, and remains as accurate and relevant today as when Morgan (seoguy) first published it. The "blue widgets vs green widgets" explanation is simply brilliant, and even today I am amazed at how many so called SEO experts are still pushing the mantra of high traffic terms despite the logic of this proven argument.

I am a complete product of self taught SEO by simply reading forums for 5 years. All you have to do is test for yourself what you read on here or even come up with your own ideas. Once you know something works, stick to it. Toss the stuff that doesn't.

I'd forgotten about Seoguy - used to visit that site very regularly - another one is Seomoz - lots and lots of excellent free SEO tutorials and info for beginners

There isn't much to it really, all the info is out there. I agree with the above - get reading the Google blogs. They make no secret of what they value in a site. Sure the ins and outs of the engine are hidden, but this is subject to change on a daily basis anyway so you are better off following the principles of ensuring Google knows what a page is about (simple stuff like titles, headings, etc) and writing good content that people will want to read.
As someone who works for a UK top site I wasn't that surprised to find that our SEO team (4 dedicated guys, well 2 guys 2 gals actually!) has no magical insider knowledge or sneaky tips. We work on the principle of building a good site, sneaky tricks just aren't worth the risk given the cost of getting it wrong!
imo the difference between a professional site and an amateur site is the millions of pounds we spend on PR and marketing! I feel a bit sorry for the peeps scrabbling round for 2 or 3 finance related back links when our PR team puts out a press release that gets us 10,000 from national media sites and beyond. It's not really SEO, it's hiring a PR agency! Always check your competition when picking a niche!
All the info you need is indeed out there for free! Good luck!
a4u peeps Twitter list: PM me and I'll add you!
