Wordpress Tags Annoying!!!

Having set

Disallow to tags in robots.txt,
No follow,index in robots and
Set to ignore the perimeter in google webmasters

Google has still indexed the tag archives causing like x amount of duplicate content issues depending on how many tags basically making still rank really low. Does any1 have any other ideas? ive made a sitemap removing the tags etc.. this has made a difference

Gbot should obey the robots.txt - silly question but you have checked it says what you think, has UNIX line endings etc? You do have to be a tad careful when building a robots.txt, to make sure it actually says what you think it does, no fully qualified URLs for instance, only paths (relative or absolute is fine, just no URLs). Have you included Mediapartners-Google also, if appropriate?

Google may also index stuff but not actually crawl it - so even though the tags are showing on serps they may not be affecting your site's performance so much as you think?

Brendon won't know because he isn't one of the 'cutlets' but Matt Cutts did a post about a similar problem not so long ago.

Also, I don't think they place much weight on tags anyway - you don't see many tag results in searches generally?

No, but *if* they are being crawled, it *could* cause dupe issues - depends on the details

Matts a nice guy, but I don't read him regualrly any more. I did see the post now though, again decent advice there, really, shame he doesn't do as many of those solid informational posts as he did. Then again, I guess he got tired of it being treated as a spam reporting / reinclusion request / help me think type of outlet
