How should I go about getting indexed I am a complete novice in this area, not prepaid to spend any money but happy to allocate a lot of my spare time to developing my website.

So far the site has been up a week or so and I am still adding content rich articles, etc.. blah blah blah..

I've started using AdSense as someone told me this was a good way to get indexed faster.

Is there anything else I can do? obv digg, stumbling, social networking groups are in the pipeline. But is there a simpler method.

Appreciate any comments as I am a complete noob at this.

The quickest way is to get backlinks, submit your URL to Google and submit a sitemap but AdSense does nothing to help Google ranking. I'm sure it sais this somewhere within the Adsense area.

    What is your site?

Thanks Liquid, my site is http://www.nanostakespoker.com/

Anyway, like I say I am bit of a novice in this area. Still putting a lot of the content on there but its taking a while only had the site a little while. Its completely a hobby for me and if the site pays for itself in 12 months that ideal, I havent had to put a penny towards it so far which is great for a hobby and I intend to keep things like that until I can prove that ppl want to use it.

I've submitted url to google and yahoo which seems a very slow process. I watched a video which advised that AdSense speeds things up?????

How do I go about getting backlinks without paying for them? I mean no one is going to want to swap with me given that I am not even indexed yet. I can't rly see an answer tbh. :cry:cry

    Thanks for replying

If you edit your post to make the link to your site a proper hyperlink, then you could get indexed from this forum. Generally getting a link in to your site from a high ranked site is a good way to get indexed. I think it's ok to drop a link to your site on forums when you are asking for a review of your site, and once you become a forum regular you can include the site in your sig. Be careful though not to overpromote your site in forums to begin with or your will be labelled as a spammer.

It is a really challenging, I emailed some people asking for links and got offensive messages back because I was new but use forums and blogs. But be relevant and some forums/blogs have non-follow links so search engines dont follow them.

Thanks very much accelerator, I didn't even think of that, I have edited my previous post to include the link.

BTW the sites back up now!

Its work in progress but I feel like I am getting somewhere. What sort of timescale should I target for getting indexed as a novice? I've read on some forums that it can take up to couple of months... is this normal?

So you managed to get indexed just from forums and blogging? How long did this take?

New sites take about 10-15 days to get indexed. First of all you must register to Google Webmaster's tool and submit XMl sitemap of your site which I see you haven't done before.

Here are the exact steps you need to take:

    1) Go to Google Webmasters tool www.google.com/webmasters/tools

    2) Sign up and then verify. This can be done by either pasting the Google Verification meta tag on your home page or by uploading a folder at root of your file. You will get instructions for this when you sign up.

    3) Create a XML sitemap. Use any free XML sitemap generator (Google this and you will find lots of them), upload the XML sitemap on your site.

    4) Submit sitemap in Webmasters tools.

These steps are must for any new site. Although your site can get indexed by getting some good backlinks but signing up with Webmasters tool will help you to find many other important information about your site.

    Hope it will help.
