Link diversity, no its not a new routine by Britain's got talents favourite dance group but the reason you need to start thinking about your link building strategy!
The Problem:
You buy a website "www.fish-tank-light.org.uk" and you desperately want it to rank for the term "fish tank light". No problems there we've all done it, but the problem lies in the link building strategy most newbies use to get there.
Strategy 1: Get zillions of links to the domain page with the anchor text "fish tank light". As for pages, who cares it i'l just create a few!
Apart from the fact your most likely to end up just ranking for the one keyword, your site will look ever so slightly 2D to Google. Its a major problem iv encountered with one of my own websites not attacking that long tail as well as it could.
The Solution:
Strategy 2: Get just enough links to the domain page for a no1 with slight variations in anchor text, also building links to other "hub sections" eg: fish tank day light lamp, replacement bulbs, fish tank filter, customer service, privacy, terms, the fish blog, hints and tips.
See what I did there? Instead of creating the most wonderfully one dimensional website ever iv created a website with depth and meaning. Google wont just be ranking this website for the term "fish tank light" but i'l be popping up for all manner of terms. Some you'll be able to sell to and some you wont but hey... its all part of the fun.
How to build "link diversity"
1. Get a blog
A blog is a great way to pick up track-backs, syndicate articles and get people talking. Iv had loads of articles picked up and lots of back links indexed due to people liking a blog post so much they have copies and pasted it. You can see this in action on my Manchester airport blog. Whatever you do make every blog post interesting and never try and sell things! A blog is a fun link building tool not a spam machine.
2. Join Linkmarket or Linkmanager
Yes some people will spout the old "link farm" chestnut but who cares. These services offer a great way to find new people to swap links with. Just be sure to have a strategy for where those links will point and what the anchor text will be.
3. Articles
Just like this one! Maybe spend a week writing about one aspect of your website eg: daylight fish lamps. Just be sure to get deeper links into your articles as well as ones pointing to your domain.
4. Comment on blogs
Lets face it, most blogs no follow their outbound links. This doesn't mean you cant use it to your advantage though! When commenting always put your blog title as your name eg: "the fishy blog" and your blog url as your website. Sure you wont get any link love but you'll start receiving hits.... hits that might bookmark you or copy an article they see for their website.
5. Forum signatures
This is a dicey one! Many forums are fed up of spam yet if you drop a link to a section that might be of interest to the forums audience you might be a few hits. You would be mad not to include your blog in your signature too!
So that's its. Link diversity is all about spreading the love not shepherding it into one url! Next time your working on a website think about the depth, Google will thank you and your long tail happy customers sure will too!

Haha, good article.
I just hope you spinned it before posting it to many places, surely with such great SEO wisdom you know about duplicate content and google.
And also, wouldn't it be better to submit articles that relate to airport parking instead of webmaster related topics?
Finding Kiev hotels for my new website.
But he's not linking his airport parking site in the article?
