After a site revamp about 7 weeks ago we got to page 1 on google for our main keyword. A few days ago we vanished and are no longer listed at all for that keyword. We are listed for longer tailed keywords though, just not our main one! Our visitors have dropped dramatically

We have 3 to 5 new lots of content being added every day.

Any ideas how to get back for our main keyword, which is also our site domain name?

Sounds like you've overcooked it for the main term, and triggered a penalty. Just back off on the main term

Might be worth adding in some random links, some no-follow links etc.

Id like to know if there is a plan of action that can be taken too. The number if links reported by Google to my new website has jumped 1000+ :blush and my ranking has actually slipped.

Iv managed to get rid of most of these links. Especially ones that appeared spammy. What would be the next thing to do? I'm not banned so do i just let Google find out it in its own time that all those links have gone and things are back to "normal" albeit with a smattering of decent new links

How do you know for sure if I have overcooked it with keywords as I think this might be the case with one of my domains also? It used to rank page 1/2 but now sits page 5-6 for all my targeted terms for quite some time now and I can't seem to improve it. In the Google webmaster tools I don't see any problems flagged but not sure if this kind of penalty would show in there.

If I have overcooked it, is the best course of action to add more content to water down the keywords or just trim keywords back?

    >> How do you know for sure if I have overcooked it

Well, the big hint is when your rankngs tank, but only for certain terms.

    >> If I have overcooked it, is the best course of action

It depends on whats there, but reducing the overemphasis usually works well

If you post the url by pm I can have a look too.
The only way to say is looking at your link profile.

Deffo think I have overdone it now I have looked at my content again. Will have a go at re-doing the content, wish I kept a copy of the content when it was doing well before it went pete tong.

Once the page gets crawled again will the penalty get removed automatically or do I need to do something else? I presume the penalty is due to keyword stuffing.

    Thanks for your help.

Check internal anchor text too - repeating the same exact phrase over and over again is a bit frowned upon, but breaking up multi word terms, and switchng between singular and plural can be enough
