    Hi

I launched simplychildsavings.co.uk a couple of months ago and I'm still not ranking for competitive terms. Admittedly I've done very little in the way of link building yet but my content is more in-depth than a lot of the competition.

What should I do to get things moving?

I would also have better description and keyword meta tags. Get the All in One SEO plugin, it's excellent

Thanks guys - I'm still fairly new to link building and have read a few conflicting things.

Given that I can only dedicate an hour a day to this, would my time be best spent emailing complementary sites for link exchanges, syndicating fresh content, doing a bit of social bookmarking, or simply submitting the site to as many directories as I can find??

If you've only an hour a day write a relevant article, use your keywords as anchor text in the article/resource box (check as the rules vary) and then submit it to article directories.
I wouldn't bother doing link exchanges. concentrate on building one way backlinks first.

Here's an article I've written on the subject which will give you some more details - how to build backlinks .

    Handy article Alison. Thanks.

I've read that some SEO experts believe you should write a different version of the article for each directory, otherwise the collective authority of the links is weakened because it's viewed as duplicate content.

    Any thoughts?

Duplicate content is not as damaging as most people tend to think. Having said that, I submit original content in the article directories etc I use for my clients.

There's a really interesting video here from Google on the subject of duplicate site content which is worth a look YouTube - Duplicate Content & Multiple Site Issues

    Best wishes
