Google paying attention to breadcrumbs

Saw a report earlier today that suggested Google was going to be paying more attention to 'breadcrumb' links within sites.

Obviously, breadcrumbs are a great way to interlinking pages within a website.

My question is if you've got a really good navigation system, do you still need breadcrumbs as well. They wouldn't suit every site would they?

@priceengines - do you have a link to this report, as it would be interesting to read?

Perhaps they will be paying closer attention in that it is an easy way to check that sites have clear navigation and useable structure? Not sure how hard it would be to add this to the bottom of a site so that it would be read by the google bot, but wouldn't have a negative impact on your existing nav function?

I was actually looking at adding this to one of my sites as a way to add incentives to visitors to click through to different sections when they land on a product/info page because of a long tail term. So far I have found WordPress › Breadcrumb NavXT WordPress Plugins but have no idea whether it will work for what I want within my sites structure.
