My post got moved and no one told me?![]()
Hello..
I am aware that Meta tags are not looked at as closely as they used to be but had a couple of Q's::
1. Am I right that you can use as many keywords in the meta tag as you want..as long as you're not repeating and stuffing??
2. If I have a site promoting a popular branded product, can I utilise their brandname in the meta tag??
Cheers,
Steve

Well, Google ignores the Meta Keywords tags now. See this:
Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking
Yahoo! might still be using it and so might a few others.
As memory serves, a reasonable limit was 25 words and yeah, repeating and stuffing got you in trouble. I guess you could include brand names if it was highly relevant to the page you were on.
Here's an old search engine watch article talking about Meta Tags and how to use them,
How To Use HTML Meta Tags - Search Engine Watch (SEW)
(in fact it says there that Inktomi (the old Yahoo! search engine) indexes up to 25 so there you go.
Of course, all this may be academic if search engines don't use the tag - may as well spend your time doing something that will definitely help your rankings. Especially if you're manually entering the meta tags for a large site.
Hope that helps.
Ok thanks forthat, will take a look.
I realise that this is far from the most important now where SEO is concerned, just want my site to be as clean as possible.
Cheers,
Steve
