This is just my personal view, and would welcome any feedback.

With my website hosting I was given £50 worth of free adverts with google ads. To start with it cost me £5.00 to activate an acount. So straight away I`m down to £45.00. Then after setting up my advert and costing and seeing that it should spread the cost over a period of the time.

Being new to this and being on limited budget I settled for a £10 budget per day and with about 4p click.

This after two days of waiting after your not suppose to have pop ups.

So I set up my advertising campaign and thinking great I`ll get some sales now, so sit and wait and keep checking google.

Advertising keyword targets not being reached so Google closing down the ads, having to pay another £5.00 for it to be reactivated.

Now I`ve set up my advertising budget at £40 a day and for about £3.00 per click just so that I can get rid of the account and who knows maybe get a sale out of it.

So far only 2 clicks, and been at the top of the tree for the past day or so. And sadly no sales from it.

Google will probaly close down the ad and blame myself for it`s poor results, charge me another £5.00 activation fee.

How many words can you use to say here is a Lottery site? Lottery or Lotteries is all that I can make. So why should a person get a slap wrist because even though your top of the ladder or on the first page, of a search engine supposed to be pulling god knows how many searches a day and it`s not giving results or getting them for themselves.

So if your reading this, new to the game, and thinking that all pay for ads are fantastic and going to be a money spinner. Think again

All feedback from people actually using google that are getting results from paid for click is grateful.

    Cheers

    Mark

Probably right, and without wishing to be funny, making adwords convert needs homework, and lots of it. It's not Googles fault that you haven't done that homework - or at least not enough of it.

How many words can you use to say here is a Lottery site? Lottery or Lotteries is all that I can make.
If i was to make an adwords ad for lotteries, i would start with thousands of keywords, all exact keywords, and i would whittle that down to a couple of hundred over a 2 week period while watching the effectiveness of each combination.

Adwords does work, it's just hard work.

Yes you can have online lottery, online lotteries, free lotteries, this lottery that lottery etc.

Try web ceo and a few more for homework

If you do a search at www.google.com

See who`s at the top of the tree.

Doesn`t matter if you type online lotteries, lotteries r us etc etc as long as you have one keyword it finds you.

Now about that homework you were talking about

Just to add an old chestnut. "You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink" I`m paying google for a service to get me customers, if they dont bring me customers, then I dont see why they should close down my advertising and charge me another five pounds for reactivation, if no one is clicking an advert. Infact the less people that dont click, but enter the URL into a browser the better for me, as long as the advert stays up, then I`m not paying for it. Thankfully I got this free but if I have to pay £5.00 because google is not getting enough click throughs, thats not my fault advertising, it`s simply because either people already have their favourites or know what the site would be about.

8pm last night email from the Oz Lotteries, 8.01pm my advert was already changed to advertise a new promotion. So I do my job of advertising properly, and also as much marketing as possible, advertising free strip poker as soon as I hit the sack at night in chat rooms so people come into the room, see the url and then hopefully go and have a look around and spend some money.

I think the killer is the word "Australian". What's the incentive for a non-Oz seracher to click? None, your copy implies your are a strictly Australian site. I know that's not true, and so do you, but the SEARCHERS don't know that. If you keep a mental picture of search engine users being collectively dribbling idiots, you'll do alright

That means you were achievig an OVERALL CTR of less than 0.5%. Given the above, I can't say I find that particularly surprising. You are assuming too much of your audience, IMO

Same as before really, if you type "Australian Lotteries" "Worldwide Lotteries" "* Lotteries" then again I will be on top.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...-8&q=lotteries

Lottery had also been a keyword and also casino but both were closed.

So far 2 clicks, no revenue and cost me £10.00 plus 2 x click through.

Personally I would rather if I`m guareenteed "Top 10" placement by a company for £90 say. I would rather pay that £90 over the year than keep paying £5.00`s here and there because people are not clicking through.

Sadly with the ad words you only have two lines with a max wordage, but I have obviously .co.uk addy.

Just gave me an idea anyway which I have now done, so thank you to both as just gave me a idea from my current advert which I will now try.

Nice to see feedback and to debate a matter, breaks up the day a bit.

I`m on yahoo chat and I`ve even set up my own sod off message as normally you`ve got blokes that page you without checking to see if your a male first

Sorry you have come through to the message bot. Currently no one is available to take your message. Please vist http://www.mouseclickbetting.co.uk for free casino money, free lotteries, free online games and much much more. Now including a shopping portal with over 1,000 products from leading online shops.

So whatever advertising I can do I`m doing at the moment lol just bad that you have to wait 4 weeks to be placed in search engines so just got to sit and wait now really and get the word out as much as I can and hopefully as cheaply as I can

Google adwords is not for the impatient, it takes a lot of learning and research. Their editorial process is unusual also and annoyingly inconsistent at times.

The traffic is certainly there but you need to do some keyword research sometimes. Adwords can be incredibly frustrating which is why many give up on it. Using geotargeting will restrict your traffic also but the idea is that the few clicks that you do get are extremely targeted.

The £5 activation fees are annoying and uneccessary, designed to encourage people to write ad text with good ctr more than anything else. You could always try Mirago or Espotting instead.

I searched for 'free uk lotteries'......and to my suprise I was position 1 and 2 LMAO - sorry, I couldn't resist!

You are missing the point, however......google adwords isn't as basic as you're trying to make out.

The more specific you are in the keywords you target, the cheaper the bid can be, and the higher up the SERPS you go.....
