You should be very careful about artificially building lots of inbound links with the same keywords in them as Google's algorithm has been tightened up on this kind of SEO malpractice and it may result in your website's disappearance from the search results. My website ranks top for 'Google Penalty' and every day people write to me with horror stories and almost all have been involved in some form of artificial attempt at boosting their website ranking. The long and the short of it is to encourage natural link acquisition through writing exceptional content that people will find interesting enough to link to and also to consider using some paid search to select pages on your site (like Google AdWords) as this gets traffic to what may be otherwise unvisited pages and encourages natural links.
Other tips - write articles and embed links in them and submit these to Articlebase, Ezine Articles, GoArticles and the like. Links should use varied text and not the same anchor text time and time again. Links should also point to internal pages that you wish to promote, not just your homepage. Also submit your site to the Open Directory Project (local listing section) as this has a shorter listing delay. Use Google Maps and set yourself up a listing there too and then set up a business profile on Freeindex.co.uk.
None of this is a five minute job, but doing it right will give good results - much better than seeing your site evaporate from the search results never to return.
Hope this helps
